Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the Mercosur summit in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil on Friday. The outgoing President has indicated that he may run for the post again.

Brazil’s popular leader is hinting he may run for the Presidency again — less than two weeks before his chosen successor take office.

Asked during a Rede TV interview on Monday if he would be a future candidate, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva says he “can’t say no.”

It’s not the first time Mr. Silva has hinted he may try a comeback in the future.

In June of last year, Mr. Silva said he would run if his party’s candidate, now President-elect Dilma Rousseff, lost the election. She easily won a second-round vote in October and takes office January 1.

Mr. Silva is ending his second four-year term. He is legally barred from seeking a consecutive third term.

Mr. Silva is going out as Brazil’s most popular leader, boasting 87 per cent approval ratings in one poll.
