The Bangladesh government has ordered closing down of Darul Ihsan University and outer campuses of all private universities across the country after reports that a section of students of those institutions getting involved in militancy.
The Ministry of Education issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday. Bangladesh has 92 private universities, according to the University Grants Commission.
One of the nine suspected militants killed in Tuesday’s police raid in Dhaka was a student of North South University (NSU) in the capital city. The university is already under police scanner as at least two of its students were allegedly involved in the Gulshan café attack earlier in the month that killed at least 22 civilians. Meanwhile, the British Council has closed all its offices in Bangladesh temporarily to review security procedures.
