Chinese Defence Minister to visit Pakistan

Chinese Defence Minister General Liang Guangile will arrive here tomorrow along with a 16—member delegation for talks on defence cooperation, officials said today.

During the two—day visit, Gen. Liang will hold meetings with his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar and senior military leadership here, a Defence Ministry statement said.

“The visit of Chinese defence delegation will further strengthen and enhance bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring countries,” the statement said.

Pakistan and China have wide—ranging and long defence cooperation including joint production of small fighter aircraft and tanks.

China has also set up nuclear power plant at the town of Chashma in Punjab and work is underway on second in the same region.

Sources said that the Chinese defence minister will also call on President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and top military generals.

The Chinese Minister will also visit defence facilities, sources said.
