Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy, noted for her roles in movies like The White Hotel and Clueless, died at the age of 32 after suffering a cardiac arrest, leaving the film fraternity in a state of shock and despair.

City firefighters responded to a medical call at around 8 a.m. on Sunday from the 8,000-square-foot home the actress shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The Atlanta-born actress had apparently collapsed in a bathroom. Firefighters made several unsuccessful attempts to revive her on the way to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, but she was pronounced dead by the hospital two hours later.
