Brar attack case enquiry fizzling out?

The investigation into last week’s murderous attack on Lt. Gen. (retired) K. S. Brar in London appeared to be running into the sand as one more alleged suspect was released on bail on Sunday.

Nine were released on Saturday.

Of the 12 people arrested in the case only two — ‘A’ (33) and ‘C’ (34) — remain in custody. Critics described the police tactics that led to the arrests of so many people over two successive days as a “fishing expedition.”

With little apparent progress, police issued another public appeal for information. “Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have information about the incident. In particular, they want to speak to those people who assisted the wife and the victim at the scene following the attack,” Scotland Yard said in a statement.

General Brar was attacked by four men when he and his wife were returning to their hotel in Oxford Street after dinner on the night of September 30. The assailants were described as being “Asian in appearance” with “long beards.” They were reported to be wearing dark clothes and long black jackets.

General Brar called it a “pure assassination attempt” by Khalistani sympathisers for his role in the 1984 Operation Blue Star to remove militants from the Golden Temple Complex.
