U.S Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin will lead a five-day American Innovation Roadshow across four cities in India from March 14 to promote cooperation between the two countries in clean energy technologies.
Ziad Haider, Department of State’s new Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs – who will also be part of the delegation traveling to India – said the U.S could help India bridge the $ 100 billion capital that it requires to meet the ambitious clean energy targets set by the Narendra Modi government. U.S cooperation will also ensure access to technology for India, said Mr. Haider. India hopes to create 175 gigawatts of clean energy by 2022, but is short of an estimated $100 billion in terms of capital.
According to Mr Haider, the roadshow has three objectives: to showcase the American innovation brand, engage with young entrepreneurs and to convey to “government interlocutors the regulatory environment that’s needed to actually enable innovation and entrepreneurship.” The Special Representative said the forthcoming visit would be in line with the emphasis on the economic dimension of India-US bilateral relationship.
