An official says Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas lightly injured himself in a fall at his home.

Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeneh, says the president slipped in his bedroom early Friday at his home in Amman, Jordan, and suffered a few bruises. He was taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which were negative.

Abbas turns 75 later this month. He owns a home in Amman, which he often visits.

The spokesman says there is no cause for concern, and doctors said Mr. Abbas will recover after a few days of rest and physical therapy.

The fall is not expected to affect Mr. Abbas’ plans to meet with U.S. peace envoy George Mitchell when the American returns to the Middle East on Sunday.
