20 killed in Pakistan blast

September 15, 2011 04:23 pm | Updated 10:17 pm IST - ISLAMABAD:

In the second such attack on a pro-government local militia, a suicide bomber detonated himself at the funeral of a lashkar leader in Lower Dir near the Durand Line killing at least 20 people and leaving double the number injured.

Local police claimed that the bomber was specifically targeting the lashkar as it had been opposing the writ of the Taliban in the area.

On Tuesday, terrorists targeted a school bus ferrying children back home to a locality where another lashkar was opposing their writ.

Many of these lashkars receive funding from the government but there is growing criticism about using civilians to wage what should be the security establishment's war against terrorism.

Some laskhars have in the past complained that after initial attention, the government practically abandoned them and they had to then face the ire of the terrorists.
