Youth arrested for stealing jewellery

Police here arrested a 24-year-old youth of Nagapattinam on Tuesday on charges of stealing jewellery from a court staff’s residence.

R.Varadharajan, Inspector of Police, Lawspet, said the culprit was nabbed in the early hours of Tuesday during regular patrolling on the East Coast Road and the jewellery were recovered from him.

Hassan Mohammed of Velampudukudi, Nagapattinam district has been identified as accused.

Originally, Vinayagam alias Mohankumar, staff attached with Principal District Sessions Court lodged a complaint with Lawspet Police on July 11 alleging that unknown persons had stolen jewellery from his house in the Government Quarters.

During interrogation, Hassan confessed that he had stolen the ornaments from the complainant’s house. He admitted that he had watched the house. When the complainant’s wife left the house without locking the house, he decamped with valuables.
