Over 300 daily rated workers in various departments picketed the Chief Secretariat on Wednesday to press for their charter of demands including absorption in regular posts of Multi Tasking Workers.

P. Lakshmanaswami, general secretary of the Puducherry State Government Employees’ Central Federation said there are nearly 2,000 daily rated employees in various departments including education, PWD and municipality.

Though most of the workers had rendered 15 to 20 years of service they were denied regularisation and absorption in regular posts of Multi Tasking Workers.

Mr. Lakshmanaswami said the vacant posts were being filled by co-terminus staff against Government order. As a result daily rated workers were denied pension and other fringe benefits. The chances of promotion of these workers have also been narrowed.

Though repeated representations were made to authorities concerned no initiative was taken so far.

The workers if regularised as soon as possible would receive their pension and all other benefits, he said.

Most of the workers had put in 15 to 20 years of service.
