A three-month self-defence programme for girl students and launch of websites for all government schools were among measures announced in school education by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in the 2015- 2016 budget speech on Wednesday.

In continuation of the implementation of the CBSE curriculum in schools in the Union Territory, Mr. Rangasamy said that this year English-medium middle schools would be adopting the pattern. The phased implementation began last year with Standard I to V in English-medium schools switching to the CBSE curriculum.

Classrooms in the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) will be converted to interactive smart classrooms, while e-content will be developed to enhance learning skills, he said. Construction of sufficient number of separate toilets for boys and girls, and installation of reverse osmosis plants for purified drinking water in all government schools will be completed by August , Mr. Rangasamy said.
