Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan inaugurated a training-cum-seminar hall, built at a cost of Rs. 39 lakh, at the Government Institute of Ceramic Technology at Vriddhachalam, near here, on Saturday.
He said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had launched several schemes to promote micro, small and medium industries. For instance, she sanctioned Rs. 1.1 crore in the past two years for the improvement of the Cuddalore industrial estate. Last year, an industrial estate came up at Nesalur near Veppur. The government sanctioned Rs. 1.87 crore to help first-generation entrepreneurs set up their own units.
Commercial Taxes Minister M.C. Sampath said the institute was offering three-and-a-half-year diploma courses. Those who passed out of the institute landed lucrative jobs in the units making sanitary wares, tiles, insulators, abrasives, cement and glass. Many of the alumni became entrepreneurs. Collector S. Suresh Kumar, A. Arunmozhithevan, MP, and Selvei Ramajeyam, Sivasubramanian and Murugumaran, MLAs, participated.
