Condemning the decision to convene the Puducherry Assembly on March 12, Leader of the Opposition V. Vaithilingam said the elections would be announced before the Assembly session and it would mean that the problems of the people would not be solved.
The Speaker had assured the Opposition parties that the Assembly would be convened after Pongal, but there had been no session.
By convening the Assembly after the election announcement, the government was enacting a drama. At the very least, the Assembly session convened on March 12 should be a full-fledged one and people’s issues should be addressed. If the government did not allow this, the Congress would organise an agitation against the government, Mr. Vaithilingam said speaking to the press on Monday.

On the issue of milk scarcity, Mr. Vaithilingam said the government had not taken any steps to increase the milk production in the Union Territory.
In the absence of milk from the Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, the Ponlait booths should be able to supply other brands of milk.

The government should also ensure that the milk purchase from outside sources should be done in a transparent manner. So far, the milk procurement from Tamil Nadu and other States is done with arbitrary pricing. Instead of this, the pricing should be done through tender system, he said.
On the matter of the child’s abduction from Rainbow Nagar, he said the government should take steps to arrest the culprits. Instead, it has been tight-lipped on the incident.
