Two fishermen found murdered at Dubrayapet

Two fishermen were found dead with head injuries in a drain at Dubrayapet in the coastal hamlet of Vambakeerapalayam here on Monday evening.

The victims were identified as D. Narasimhan (26) and his brother D. Manimaran (25) of Angalamman Kovil Street in Vambakeerapalayam.

According to police, Narasimhan and Manimaran were involved in several assault cases. The duo was returning home after appearing before a local court in connection with a case when a gang called Narasimhan on his mobile phone and called them for reconciliation.

When the brothers reached Dubburayapet a 10 member gang armed with lethal weapons chased and indiscriminately attacked them. The gang later smashed their heads with a boulder and fled the scene.

On information police personnel retrieved the bodies from a drain and sent them for post-mortem to the Puducherry government general hospital.

Tension mounted after relatives of Narasimhan and Manimaran ransacked 10 houses and 20 two-wheelers of suspects parked in front of houses in Dubrayapet.

Irate mob

The irate mob also manhandled a police constable Gnanaguru alleging that he was close to the suspects who had committed the crime.

Police officials intervened and rescued the constable. The police have formed four special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered and further enquiries are on.
