Activist ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy on Tuesday created a flutter at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) alleging that the road accident involving a member of his outfit in Cuddalore was an “orchestrated one”.

Fathima (30), a member of Mr. Ramaswamy’s Makkal Paadukappu Kazhagam, was returning in a jeep from Kumbakonam to Chennai on Tuesday when a lorry rammed the vehicle at Alapakkam.

Fathima sustained injuries and was rushed to the Cuddalore Government Hospital and later referred to Jipmer. On information Mr. Ramaswamy rushed to Jipmer.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ramaswamy said that Fathima was earlier announced as the party nominee for the R.K. Nagar constituency by-election in Chennai. But later he had decided to contest the polls.

He alleged that the accident was stage-managed by the ruling AIADMK. The jeep’s driver was in constant touch with police personnel and he had stopped the vehicle at various locations enroute to Chennai giving rise to doubts. The accident was stage-managed to intimidate me from contesting the by-elections, he said.

Mr. Ramaswamy claimed that he had sought the support of the Opposition parties as they had decided to boycott the by-election to R.K. Nagar constituency.
