Three-tier security for counting centre

EVMs from Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency kept in strong room

In safe custody: The strong room in the counting centre at Arignar Anna Government Arts College in Villupuram being sealed on Friday in the presence of senior officials.

Electronic voting machines (EVMs) from six Assembly segments of Tindivanam, Vanur, Villupuram, Vikkiravandi, Tirukovilur and Ulundurpet under Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency were moved from the polling booths and stored in the strong room of the counting centre at Arignar Anna Government Arts College here on Friday.

The strong rooms were sealed in the presence of District Election Officer L. Subramanian, District Revenue Officer R. Priya and General Observer for Villupuram Mohindhar Singh and representatives of various political parties.

A three-tier security cover comprising the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Armed Reserve Police Force (ARPF) and the local police has been arranged at the strong room. Two control rooms have been set up at the counting centre.

Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency registered 78.22% polling on Thursday. Of the 14,43,436 eligible voters, 11,28,998 voters — men 5,63,606 and women 5,65,339 had cast their votes, along with 53 others.

Ulundurpet topped the list among the six Assembly constituencies under Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency with 80.41% polling followed by Vanur 79.85%, Vikkiravandi 79.57%, Tindivanam 78.66%, Tirukovilur 75.51% and Villupuram 75.37%.
