The Puducherry State Human Rights Committee headed by retired Justice J.A.K. Sampath Kumar held a meeting here on Monday to review cases of human rights violations and police excesses in the Union Territory.
Justice Mr. Sampath Kumar said the committee had taken up 16 cases during the monthly meeting and had asked the complainants to appear.
However, only nine of the complainants appeared during the meeting.

He said that two of the 16 cases related to police excesses and police personnel have furnished their replies. The committee has issued directions to the respondents in the other cases, he said.
