Special drive to enrol all voters

October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:09 am IST - KARAIKAL:

With the objective of bringing all stakeholders to a common platform to reach out to voters, the Elections Department launched a Mission Mode Programme called LEVER (Looping in EVERyone) on Monday. It aims at achieving a higher voter enrolment and larger voter turn-out during elections.

Introducing the programme by flagging off a mobile vehicle at Arignar Anna Government Arts College here on Tuesday, Collector E. Vallavan said the programme focussed on ethical voting besides motivating youth to be partners in the poll process.

He said it would ensure inclusion of all eligible voters in the voter’s list. Services of Social Welfare Department personnel would be availed for inclusion of the differently-abled. Staff of Women and Child Department would be availed for inclusion of all eligible women voters while those of Labour Department for enrolment of migrant workers. A nodal officer has been posted for inclusion of differently-abled voters. Services of non-governmental organisations would be utilised for inclusion of transgender. The department has roped in volunteers of NSS from schools and colleges and Nehru Yuva Kendra for taking forward the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in an innovative and scientific way to the urban segment to dispel their apathy to voting.
