Sanitation facilities in Oulgaret Municipality to be spruced up

‘Under Swachh Bharat Mission, they are having a makeover to attract users’

The public and community toilets in the Oulgaret Municipality will be renovated and have new face-lifts soon.

Oulgaret Municipality Commissioner M.S. Ramesh said, “Under Swachh Bharat Mission, Oulgaret Municipality is giving a face-lift for all community and public toilets. At present a public toilet near Pitchaveeranpet was renovated and painted so that it would be more attractive for users. Like this very soon all toilets in the municipality will be painted”.

Programmes

The Local Administration Department last year proposed various sanitation programmes including setting up hygienic and attractively designed community and public toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) in the Union Territory. As part of the mission, the community and public toilets in seven constituencies located in the limits of municipality were taken up for cleaning. The municipality undertook, in association with other stakeholders, cleaning of various school campuses.

Removal of banners and posters, conducting health camps, cleaning of various burial grounds, public parks, de-silting of side drains on arterial roads were done. The municipal commissioner conducted discussions with hoteliers, owners of restaurants, marriage halls and butchers about waste management.
