Agriculture Minister R. Kamalakannan has urged banks to focus more on issuing loans to rural women entrepreneurs.
Addressing the second meeting of State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) for 2019-20 to review the performance of banks as on June, Mr. Kamalakannan requested banks to encourage women in rural areas by providing loans for their empowerment and small ticket loans for livelihood. He also urged bankers to be sympathetic to farmers while dealing with them.

Padmaja Chunduru, MD & CEO, Indian Bank, in her presidential address outlined the present day global economic scenario, Indian economic growth and the performance of banks in the Union Territory. B. Veeraraghavan, Zonal Manager and Convenor SLBC, Indian Bank, Puducherry, presented the agenda for discussion in the SLBC. A Anbarasu, Development Commissioner, T. Arun, District Collector, Suman Ray, Chief General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Chennai, Baiju N. Kurup,General Manager, Nabard, Chennai, and M. Nagarajan, General Manager, Indian Bank, Corporate Office, Chennai, spoke.
Officials from banks and senior officials from various government departments also participated in the meeting.
