The Principal District Session Court here on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a retired sub-registrar and a document writer to two years’ rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case.
According to the Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, C. Balasundaram, while he was working as a sub-registrar at Karaikal, registered 118 documents without following the guideline rates. Thus, due to his misconduct, government sustained a loss of Rs. 3.70 lakh between 1994-1997.
Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department registered the case in 1998 against Balasundaram and Iqbal, a document writer under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code. Apart from sentencing to two years, the court also imposed a fine on them.
