Puducherry’s requirements to be met through supplementary demand

Narayanasami takes up with Jaitley the issue of additional funds

The Union Finance Ministry has agreed to include provisions in the supplementary demand for additional allocation of funds to the Union Territory, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has said.

He along with his Cabinet colleagues met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday and informed him about the need for Central assistance to tide over the financial crunch.

The Hindu that Mr. Jaitley has promised to bring provisions in the supplementary demand which would be tabled in Parliament in March.

The Chief Minister along with his Cabinet colleagues called on Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

Mr. Narayanasamy said he had invited the Health Minister to participate in the silver jubilee celebrations of Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences. He requested the Health Minister to sanction more MD and MS courses in the Government Medical College.

The Minister was briefed about the Bill passed by the Legislative Assembly seeking exemption from holding National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for five years. The Minister had agreed to look into the demand, the Chief Minister said.

In a meeting with Agriculture Minister, he appealed to Mr. Singh to depute a team to assess damage to crops in Karaikal and Puducherry regions. The territorial administration had sought a compensation of ₹100 crore to provide financial assistance to drought affected farmers.

The Agriculture Minister had agreed to depute a team at the earliest, he said.
