The Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL), a city-based organisation that works among youth delivering a variety of betterment projects ranging from self-defence training to instituting awards for child achievers, has been accorded Special Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

According to R. Suresh Krishna, TYCL Administrator, this is a first for any organisation in Puducherry. “We hope to maintain this upward momentum with quality service delivery to promote youth-led social initiatives in Puducherry,” he told The Hindu .

TYCL has been networking with other NGOs to drive change in the city.

For instance, when faced with a shortage of volunteers, the trust tied up with France Volontaires to hold an ‘Open door for volunteers and non-governmental organisations’ at the Maison Colombani in July earlier this year. The initiative aimed at building a network of volunteers, foreign volunteers and NGOs for common cause.

For the ‘Girls Lead Girls’ programme, TYCL partnered with the Women and Child Development Department, to impart self-defence skills to school girls.
