Puducherry aided school teachers to stage sit-in for payment of salary dues

June 10, 2014 02:53 pm | Updated 02:53 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Government Aided School Teachers and Employees Federation on Monday announced that its members would stage sit-in protests in all government-aided schools demanding that the managements pay up their salary dues for the last three months immediately.

According to the federation, the teachers and employees who were supposed to receive their salaries on the last working day of every month are yet to be paid for March, April and May.

Pensioners of government-aided schools are also yet to get pension for the three months, it claimed.

The Federation charged that the minority government-aided institutions completely bypassed the orders passed by School Education Department and were functioning unilaterally. As the educational institutions have not been implementing the orders, the teachers said they were not able to get their salaries for the last three months and pensionary benefits.

Seeking the intervention of Chief Minister in this issue, A. Martin Kennedy, secretary, Puducherry Government Aided School Teachers and Employees’ Federation, said: “Non-payment of salary for three months is illegal and highly condemnable.”

If the trend continues, the Federation said it has planned to intensify the agitation.

Suggesting a permanent solution, Mr. Kennedy said the State government should give 100 per cent grant to the aided school instead of the existing pattern of 95 per cent share coming from government and five per cent from the management.
