Agitators claim candidates from UT being ignored

The Puducherry Unemployed PhD/NET/SLET Qualified Youths Association on Friday staged a demonstration near the Legislative Assembly to mark their protest against the blatant violation of rules and regulations by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) in the selection process.

B. Balaji, joint secretary of the Association pointed out that there were more than 600 eligible candidates having PhD/NET/SLET qualifications awaiting employment opportunities for the post of assistant professor in various government colleges.

“Despite such a huge number of qualified eligible candidates in the Union Territory of Puducherry, only a meagre number of Puducherry candidates were selected by UPSC,” he said.

Out of the 94 candidates selected for the vacant posts of assistant professor, only three of them belonged to the Union Territory of Puducherry, he said.

The agitators also criticised the Government’s apathetic attitude towards the candidates.
