Police seize pirated DVDs

Whistleblowers: Members of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council posed as customers at a DVD shop and helped police seize pirated DVDs of recent Tamil flicks in Puducherry on Friday.

A team from the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council accompanied by the Odiansalai police, on Friday raided a shop on Anna Salai and seized pirated DVDs of newly released Tamil films Thupparivaalan , Neruppu Da and Magalir Mattum.

Police sources said a team led by Rajasekaran from the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council found that pirated versions of many newly released Tamil films were easily available at a shop on Anna Salai. The team went as decoys to buy CDs and alerted the Odiansalai police.

A police team, led by sub-inspector Keerthi, raided the shop and seized over 500 pirated DVDs of the recently released Tamil films. The DVDs were seized and Kumar, 32, was picked up for questioning by the police. A search has been launched to nab the shop owner who was reported to be absconding.
