Fighting for wages: A group of PASIC employees taking out a protest rally demanding payment of pending salary in Puducherry on Monday.

Over 200 workers of the Puducherry Agro Services and Industries Corporation (PASIC) on Monday staged a demonstration near the Legislative Assembly demanding disbursal of pending salaries for the last 32 months.

The PASIC employees, owing allegiance to the All India Trade Union Congress, have been fighting with the government for disbursal of salary. According to them, the management had failed to disburse salary to employees, including voucher-based and daily wage workers, for the last 32 months.

Earlier, the workers led by AITUC State secretary Nara Kalainathan, took out a rally from Kamaraj Salai to the Legislative Assembly demanding disbursement of salaries. The protesters were blocked en route by the police on St. Ange Street after which they staged a demonstration condemning the government for failing to regularise their services.

They alleged that nine workers had died of penury and their families were suffering.

The management had been violating all labour laws. The government should disburse salary arrears to all workers, they added.
