As many as 114 workers of the Puducherry Agro Products, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. (Papsco) were arrested on Wednesday for laying siege to the Civil Supplies Department demanding pending salaries.
The Gorimedu police arrested them and later released them on bail. The workers complained that they were not given salaries for 28 months. Although the government had set aside ₹7 crore for providing pending salaries in the current budget, the Civil Supplies Department diverted funds to the free rice scheme, said a Papsco worker.
