Over 300 take part in tobacco awareness meet

A public education session on tobacco use under way on Tuesday.

Jipmer held its 69th interactive session on ‘Tobacco use and health effects prevention and management’ under a series of health education initiatives on Tuesday.

According to a press note, the session attracted over 300 people, including students from several colleges, Jipmer staff, Anganwadi workers and a section of the general public.

The session was addressed by specialists from various departments — Dr. Ravi Philip Rajkumar, additional professor & head; Dr. Karthick, senior resident Department of Psychiatry; Dr. J. Venkatachalam, assistant professor, Department of Preventive & Social Medicine; Dr. Saravana, Department of Pulmonary Medicine.

The session was moderated by Bitty Thomas, medical social worker, Medico Social Services Wing.

It was telecast to all medical colleges of South India under the National Medical College Network Project through the Jipmer Regional Resource Centre.

The series of public awareness initiatives are hosted by the Jipmer Health Education For All forum.
