The Neyveli Lignite Corporation, a Navratna company, has proposed to set up a polytechnic college here to fill the supply - demand gap in the availability of mining engineers/technicians, said, M.S. Ravindranath, NLC Director (Mines).
He made observation while speaking at the valedictory of the “Minefest India-2014” organised by the Mining Engineers Association of India to commemorate its silver jubilee celebrations here recently.
Mr.Ravindranath said that as of now there was an acute shortage of mining engineers in the country. It could be overcome to a certain extent by setting up a polytechnic college here to churn out candidates who would be technically qualified in mining operation.

The proposal would have to be concretised before becoming a reality. He noted that the NLC had taken all-out measures to increase its mining capacity and to preserve ecology. Towards this end it had minimised the pumping of ground water and the little that was being pumped was put to productive use. Mr Ravindranath said that the NLC was taking up new mining projects in and around Neyveli and Rajasthan. S.Tiu, Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines, NLC Director (Power) S.
