Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Wednesday said the cause of increasing incidence of diseases must be examined and early diagnosis must be made possible.
The Chief Minister lauded Jipmer for being at the forefront of medical care while speaking at the installation ceremony of four dialysis machines in the institution.
The installation of the machines by the department of Nephrology, in association with the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town, was funded by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and Rotary Club of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, USA.

Funds were also collected through the ‘click a pic’ photo contest organised by Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town, Pranav Tyagi, president of the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town. He added that ‘Project Jeevan’, under which the machines were installed, cost Rs 19.82 lakh.
District Governor Rotarian R. Visweswaran said Rotary Club had chosen JIPMER because members were certain of the sustainability of the project and that it would benefit the many people who come to the hospital. With the addition of the new machines, JIPMER now has a total of 16 dialysis machines.
Dr T.S. Ravikumar, director, Jipmer, said: “The institution has been offering treatment of kidney failure at no cost to patients and these machines would further help serve the needy. The machines will be used to offer Renal Replacement Therapy for patients with end stage renal disease and acute kidney injury.”

He further added that end stage renal disease and chronic kidney disease entailed a significant economic burden on India affecting GDP growth.
