She paints under the influence of music. Lippi Parida, a writer and self-taught artist, has dedicated her ‘musical paintings’ to The Mother.
“The beautiful music produced by Svaram influenced me to create musical paintings. I started painting for each of the seven ‘svaram’ as suggested by the Svaram director. This idea was conceived to make an offering to the Mother on her birth anniversary,” said Lippi Parida.
Titled ‘Musical Paintings’, the exhibition has a collection of paintings based on music at the Svaram Musical Instruments and Research Centre in Auroville.

Ms. Parida has given an artistic form and structure to the intangible musical notes using seven colours. Along with the seven water colour paintings, there is also a huge oil painting named ‘Rising Symphony’ and an installation displayed at the Svaram Musical Instruments and Research.
“Each painting represents a concept of music and I have given a name to each of the seven paintings explaining the significance of each svaram,” she added.
A postgraduate in International Politics, her passion for painting acquired in childhood continues to shape her artwork. Consul General of France to Puducherry and Chennai, Philippe Janvier-Kamiyama and Chief Secretary Manoj Parida were present for the inauguration of the exhibition.

The exhibition, which began as a tribute to The Mother on the occasion of her recent birth anniversary, is still on.
A native of Odisha, Ms. Parida’s paintings have been at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi regularly for the past five years. Some of her paintings on music are also displayed at the Crafts Bazaar in Gandhi Tidal on the Beach Road.
