Measures in place to maintain uninterrupted power supply

The Puducherry Electricity Department stated on Wednesday that a series of measures have been put in place to maintain uninterrupted power supply in the city.

In a press note, the department while noting that representatives of political parties had submitted a memorandum to Lt. Governor citing hardship to the public due to outages and seeking his intervention to improve the power situation in the city, the PED clarified that steps were also being taken to limit momentary interruption in supply to a 3 to 4 minutes range.

According to the department, since a review meeting with the Lt. Governor on August 16, the Electricity Department has constituted an emergency restoration squad to attend to the power supply in Muthialpet. Since then, there have been very few power outages in this area which have gone beyond a few minutes.

The Electricity Department is submitting a report about the power interruption on a daily basis to the Chief Secretary, Secretary (Power) and Lt. Governor’s office.

As far as the long term measures are concerned, the department has proposed to erect three underground (UG) 11KV feeders in Muthialpet area from Venkata Nagar Sub Station, which will take about ten months to complete.

However, without waiting for laying of the UG cables, the Department has initiated action to put up one power transformer at Venkata Nagar Sub Station

and lay 22 KV UG cable as an alternate source of supply to Muthialpet area on priority.
