Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry A.K. Singh, who had been holding additional charge of the Union Territory for the past two years, on Thursday demitted office and left for Chennai en route Port Blair where he holds charge as Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Singh was earlier given a guard of honour by the Puducherry police at the Raj Nivas. Chief Secretary Manoj Parida, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Kannan Jagadeesan, newly elected legislators, including former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, M.O.H. Shahjahan, V.P. Sivakozhundu and Lok Sabha MP R. Radhakrishnan and other officials were present to see off Mr. Singh at the Raj Nivas.
In an informal chat with reporters, Mr. Singh described his tenure of nearly two years in Puducherry as satisfying and thanked the administration for the positive contribution and the people for their warmth and understanding.

“I will be leaving Puducherry with indelible memories of my tenure and always remain a well-wisher of the Union Territory and its wonderful people. The portals of Raj Nivas were always open to people who wanted to present their grievance and I had the satisfaction of redressing them. I thank the outgoing Chief Minister and his council for their cooperation and support,” Mr. Singh said.
