Advocates, in response to the call given by the Bar Council of India on Tuesday, boycotted courts and staged a demonstration in front of the Integrated Court Complex here demanding basic facilities.
S. Mouttouvel, president of the Pondicherry Bar Association, said lawyers had been demanding basic infrastructural facilities, including a separate chamber, state-of-the-art library, toilet and wi-fi connectivity in courts across the country. The protest is against the “indifferent” attitude of various governments, including the Centre, towards lawyers.
Among others, they also demanded an allocation of ₹5,000 crore in the Union budget for financial protection, sanction of ₹10,000 stipend per month for each practising junior lawyer and insurance cover for lawyers and their families.
