Tourism Department executing projects at Dubraypet and Arikamedu beach at a cost of over ₹8 crore

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi reviewing tourism projects under the Coastal Circuit Swadeshi Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

In continuation of the review of tourism projects held at Raj Nivas, Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, made a weekend site visit to Dubrayapet and Arikamedu, which are part of the seven beaches being developed by Tourism Department under the Coastal Circuit Swadeshi Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

The Dubraypet beach is under development at an estimated cost of ₹4.90 crore. Food court, activity zone, toilet and landscaping are part of the project.

Ms. Bedi suggested development of the approach road and drawing a comprehensive plan for transportation, manpower requirement, solid waste and liquid waste disposal.

The Lt. Governor also reviewed the ongoing project of Arikamedu beach development.

The Tourism Department is executing the work through PWD at a cost of ₹ 3.49 crore, which includes pathways, cafeteria, stage, gallery and shelters.

Better road connectivity

Improvement of road connectivity and increasing shade were among the measures recommended.

Ms. Bedi also suggested providing entertainment avenues and accommodation facilities for the tourists to engage them at the beach. The Lt. Governor instructed the officials to provide necessary provision for water harvesting in all the projects, which are under execution and also to erect watch towers and police posts to ensure safety of the tourists and proper signage.

Ms. Bedi visited the arts and crafts village at Murungapakkam which was inaugurated and kept idle for more than a year.

The Director informed that this complex was recently given on lease to an event management company and was in the process of being made operational.
