Kannan appointed AIADMK’s election wing secretary

Aiming to take forward the AIADMK’s election campaign in the Union Territory, former Minister P.Kannan has been appointed as ‘Election Wing’ secretary by party general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday.

Ms. Jayalalithaa has also asked the partymen and leaders in Puducherry unit to extend full support to him.

Mr. Kannan joined the party in the presence of Ms. Jayalalithaa last month. Perhaps, for the first time, such post has been created in the Puducherry unit.

The Hindu , Mr. Kannan thanked Ms. Jayalalithaa for appointing him to the new post.

Mr. Kannan said, “I thank our leader for reposing confidence in me and appointing me to the post. I will live up to the expectation of the leader.”

He believed Ms. Jayalalithaa will become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu once again after Assembly polls.

Mr. Kannan added, “It is our wish and dream of each one of the partymen here to make the party capture power in the Union Territory with her guidance. The AIADMK leadership and rank and file will work unitedly to achieve that goal.”

Mr. Kannan started his political career as Youth Congress wing leader and was a minister during Congress and DMK-TMC regimes. He was also speaker of Puducherry Legislative Assembly between 1991-1996. He was Rajya Sabha Member from 2009 until October 2015.
