Eminent plastic surgeon Subramania Iyer was honoured for his outstanding contribution and service for patients at the fifth Jipmer Sushruta oration held on Tuesday. Dr. Iyer, currently the professor and Head of Centre for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Amrita Advanced Centre for Robotic Surgery, Centre for Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Composite Tissue Allotransplantation, Ear Reconstruction, Amrita Institute of Medical Science (Amrita Hospital) Kochi, Kerala, was the invited speaker.
Dr. S.C. Parija, Director, Jipmer, inaugurated the oration and honoured Dr. Iyer. In his address Dr. Parija said Dr. Iyer is India’s first hand transplant surgeon and mentioned his contribution in medical education, patient care and research internationally.
Dr. Iyer spoke on “Working as a Team- the better way to achieve more”. He highlighted the need for working as a team to give the best possible care to the patients. He pointed out the scope of multidisciplinary team work in plastic surgery which encompasses various specialties to deliver holistic health care. He stressed on the importance to recognise and appreciate the fellow professional in achieving effective team work. Dr. Iyer applauded the Jipmer’s multidisciplinary team approach in bringing the poor patients the best super specialty care.
