Bringing with them the rich experience of 17 years in theatre from South Korea of the Performance group — TUIDA — Juya Lee and Yosup Bae are set to find energy inside your mask at Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Arts and Research.
The two artists who are on an sabbatical to India and spending time at the Adishakti campus will culminate their stay by conducting ‘Finding Energy Inside Your Mask’ workshop from October 13 till 19. “The workshop for actors and dancers in Adishakti campus will be a master class on mask building, creating mask of emotion and character and movement meditation,” said Mr. Bae.
He added that they were inspired by Adishakti’s Source of Performance Energy workshop. “In the workshop conducted by Adishakti, they focussed on breath and facial expression according to breath. I wanted to see what physical movements emerge out from the facial expression or emotions and I want to let the participants make their own masks,” he said.

Mr. Bae and Ms. Lee will train the participants to make at least eight masks to express various emotions. “We want to use these masks in the performance. It loosens the imagination of the audience and these masks can even be used as an extension of the body,” said Yosup Bae.
Maximum of 12 people
He added that though using masks as property in their performances was not new, it was the first time that they would be applying breath, physical movement and emotions together. A maximum of 12 participants will be trained.

Mr. Bae and Ms. Lee have been on a residency at Adishakti along with Namo, their six-year-old daughter since January 2017. They will leave in the first week to Bengaluru to work in Ranga Shankara on a children’s show.
