With swine flu cases reported in the Union Territory, the Department of Health has started a campaign to administer ‘Kabasura Kudineer,’ a herbal concoction made from herbs as a preventive measure against swine flu.

The concoction is a mixture of 15 herbs including Nilavembu, Karpooravalli and Lavangam . It boosts the immunity and keeps fever such as swine flu, dengue and chikungunya at bay, Director of Health K.V. Raman said.

It should be administered to patients suffering from swine flu five times a day for three to five days to help them recover fast and built immunity. It can also be given twice a day for five days as a preventive measure against swine flu, he said.

‘Kabasura Kudineer’ has been mentioned in Siddha literature and is an effective remedy against fever and cold. It is also sold in Siddha pharmacies.

The herbal concoction will be offered to the people for free at the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases to create awareness among the people about the useful properties of the syrup.

Based on the response, it will be extended to all the primary health centres in the Union Territory, Mr. Raman said.
