Healthcare should be top priority: Bedi

e-Hospital project under NRHM to be implemented in Karaikal GH first

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi in a discussion with officials of the Health Department during her visit to the Government Hospital in Karaikal.

Following the visit to the General Hospital in Karaikal on Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi convened a meeting with the officers of the district administration, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services and the General Hospital, Karaikal on Thursday morning. The Lieutenant Governor at the outset said that health is a priority sector and should be given due priority in the interest of serving the public.

A press release issued by Raj Nivas detailed the important decisions arrived at during the review meeting. This includes digitisation of medical records. It was noted that the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services informed that the e-hospital project under NRHM is to be implemented shortly and the finalisation process of the agency is scheduled on November 8. It was suggested that the agency may implement the e-hospital project first in the Government Hospital in Karaikal.

Filling up vacancies

It was stated that directions have been issued for the maintenance of hospital and directed to fasten the process of filling the vacancy for the post of food inspector and medical technicians and that service placed medical staff of the hospital should report for duty to the parent department. They will have to draw salary only if they serve in the original place of posting. The Medical Superintendent has also been directed to follow the orders while drawing and disbursing salary for November.

Ms. Bedi directed the Director of Health and Family Welfare Services to expedite the process of grant approval sought by Jipmer for their professors of Karaikal college to treat patients at the GH. “The room earmarked in the premises of the GH for a classroom of Jipmer, which is lying idle, will be formally handed over. The recruitment policy of contract doctors should be reviewed to ensure continuity of services in case of resignation of existing contract doctor by incorporating minimum tenure or bond and notice period of resignation,” stated the release.

It also noted that the Karaikal Collector should hold coordination meeting every fortnight along with representatives of Jipmer, Karaikal, for review of the functioning of the GH, and informed that the Director of Health and Family Welfare Services will attend the coordination meeting once in every month.

Jipmer assistance

The release stated that Jipmer will provide assistance for MRI scan and facilitate regular visit of cardiologist and neurosurgeon, and will also establish epidemic unit to manage outbreak of diseases like dengue etc., “Adequate supply of medicine to Karaikal region be ensured by the Health Department and licence for blood bank be expedited.

During the meeting, it was noted that Jipmer will assist in providing platelet separator machine for Karaikal.

A Whatsapp group of the key officers of the district administration, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services and the GH, will be constituted for effective coordination and communication.
