The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Friday condemned the Government and police for allegedly protecting the offenders in the child prostitution racket.
The four absconding accused – three dismissed police personnel and a retired Sub-Inspector- in the case appeared before the Principal District Sessions Court on Thursday and were enlarged on bail immediately due to what the CPI(M) charged was laxity on the part of the prosecution.
CPM unit secretary R.Rajangam recalled that the CBCID Police took up the investigation only after his party and several other organisations conducted protests demanding action against the persons who were allegedly involved the crime which surfaced in last April. Some of the dismissed police personnel surrendered while others remained at large for long. Those absconding accused were enlarged on bail on their appearance before the court.

“The incident exposed a drama played by government and police. The act has angered the public at large,” said Mr. Rajangam.
Fearing that the case under the Puducherry government would not go in the right direction, the CPM leader demanded that the case be entrusted with Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) for further probe and demanded that a white paper on the case be released.
