Projects with an outlay of ₹181 crore under implementation

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday said the government would soon come out with a new tourism policy to create infrastructure and attract investments.

Presenting the Budget for 2019-20 in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, he said the government had been implementing various tourism-related projects with an outlay of ₹181 crore provided by the Centre.

Tourism development projects in Veerampattinam, Vambakeerapalayam and Chinna Veerampattinam have been nearing completion and very soon similar projects would come up at Manapet and Narambai villages. A beach resort would be built in Karaikal with the assistance of the Indian Tourism Development Corporation.

With the arrival of tourists every weekend to Puducherry on the increase, the government is keen on tapping the potential in the tourism sector.

An international complex would be built at Murungampakkam and various infrastructure facilities would be created to promote heritage and spiritual tourism in the Union Territory. A master plan had been prepared involving an expenditure of ₹114.50 crore and the proposal had been forwarded to the Centre for sanction of funds.

About ₹2.11 crore would be spent to acquire new vehicles for the police department.

To augment the police force, the government had decided to fill all the vacancies in various categories such as sub-inspectors, police constables, coastal police wing, Home Guards and other categories.

The Revenue department had introduced online distribution of income, caste, community and residency certificates and this enabled speedy consideration of applications by the authorities. The Village Administrative Officers would be given laptops to do their work effectively.

The concept of Makkal Kural (people’s voice) aimed at redress of grievances on the spot was launched recently in Nettapakkam constituency.

The government had proposed to conduct Makkal Kural meet in Neravy T.R. Pattinam and Karaikal and in the next six months. The remaining 28 Asembly constituencies would be covered under the scheme, he said.
