The first edition of the Pondicherry International Film Festival (PIFF), beginning on Wednesday, will feature four categories of films — short films, documentaries, animation and feature films. Organisers said that the festival will have a special focus on French cinema. France is the partner country and the PIFF will feature a special section of French films by contemporary women directors.
“We are focusing on Tamil Independent cinema and have screening of Tamil film ‘To Let’ by Director Chezhiyan followed by ‘Manusangada’ by film maker Amshan Kumar.
The idea behind the festival is to promote Puducherry not only as a tourist destination but also as a destination for International cinema, entertainment and also a shooting destination,” said Abhishek Sinha, founder and CEO of PickurFlick.

Mr. Sinha said that the second edition will have a much more immersive experience for film makers and the audience where young film makers come and pitch to the producers.
For the maiden edition, PIFF has colloborated with the Department of Tourism and local partners and will be conducted at the Alliance Française de Pondichéry, Multimedia Centre Auditorium, in association with Cinema Paradiso (Auroville) & Aurofilm (Auroville), J.N. Auditorium, Pondicherry University.
PIFF will be focusing mostly on Independent cinema from India as well as abroad produced independently by film makers. With more than 124 films, PIFF is India’s largest International independent film festival, he said.
