Four injured in clash over fishing rights

Four fishermen from Veerampattinam and Nallavadu sustained injuries in a clash over dispute on fishing rights on Monday noon.

According to the police, Surender and Sukumar of Veerampattinam and Manjini and Ayappan of Nallavadu sustained injuries in the clash that occurred near Paradise beach.

Police said the groups picked an argument while fishing in the sea and after reaching the shore they attacked each other with logs.

The crowd dispersed after police fired in the air and lobbed tear gas shells.

Two of them have been admitted at a private hospital and others at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital.

The fishermen from both the neighbouring villages were at loggerheads for several years over disputes on territorial rights for fishing.
