Participants at the face painting competition at Jipmer’s Spandan gave their imagination free run with the symmetrical contours of the human face providing the perfect foil for accentuating contrasts.
Many entries thus took up the concept of duality, including the winner of the second place, ‘Antar Dwandva’ which showed internal conflict. “I have shown Meenakshi and Calypso here emerging from the same bedrock,” said Shantanu Singh from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.
The first place was won by Midhuna PV of Jipmer who depicted the life of Buddha. “It is good to see students explore socially relevant themes like Ebola. It shows the kids are thinking,” said Dr. Venkatesh Madhugiri, faculty at the Neurosurgery department at Jipmer.

At the quiz competition on animation, games and cartoons, students revealed how while their actual ‘call of duty’ might be on the medical field, they knew enough about the shooter video game of the same name.
Adzap, Collage and JAM were the other events which kept the students busy on Thursday. After Baiju Dharmajan’s scintillating headlining act on Wednesday for Tinnitus, the Western music competition, Watermelons from NIT Tiruchi won the Best Band, with Absolute Convergence from Holymatha College winning second place.
The two colleges also swept the categories of Best Lead, Bass, Keyboard, Percussionist and Vocals.
