A photo exhibition highlighting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s life, her handwritten correspondence and visit to this former French outpost is on at the exhibition hall of Sri Aurobindo Ashram on the Beach Road to mark her birth centenary celebrations.
Organised by the Bangavani Trust of Nabadwip Dham and the World Peace Trust, the four-day exhibition began on November 18 and will be open to the public from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Dibyendu Goswami, convener of the World Peace Trust said, “The former Prime Minister had a deep contact and a special love and attraction for Puducherry. She was introduced to The Mother by her father Jawaharlal Nehru during her first visit here in 1955. Since then, The Mother took her as her blessed child. She visited the city in 1971 and 1979. The exhibition has on display pictures on her life, rare photographs and unpublished letters, especially relating to Puducherry.”

Some of the rare and unseen photographs of Indira Gandhi showcased at the exhibition include her photograph with Mirra Alfassa also known as the Mother in Sri Aurobindo Ashram and her meeting with Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Shantiniketan.
