24 films from 23 European Union countries to be screened

For the second time, the people of Puducherry will get to watch 24 films from 23 countries of the European Union at Alliance Francaise auditorium and the Storytellers’ Bar.

A delegation of the European Union to India, New Delhi, coordinated by Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) in association with Alliance Francaise of Pondicherry, Navadarshan and Navayuga Consultancy Services, will organise the European Union Film Festival (EUFF).

Lalit Verma, president, Alliance Francaise of Pondicherry, said: “The aim of this festival is not only to share but bring everyone together and celebrate diversity,” he said. The EUFF will screen movies from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

Emanadar Thangaraj, general secretary, Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAFF) and festival director, Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF), said the opening film would be screened in the presence of Greek film director Yannis Korres. “People will get to watch the technical excellence exhibited in the award winning films that have been carefully selected for the audience in Puducherry,” he added. M.Palani, secretary, Navadarshan Film Society, was present.

Greece film ‘Kissing’ will be screened at 6 p.m.on July 15 at Alliance Francaise and Denmark film Walk with Me (De Standhaftige) will be screened at Storytellers’ Bar on July 16 at 7.30 p.m.
