Government whip R.K.R. Anantharaman on Tuesday urged the government to establish a grievance cell in the office of the Chief Minister for time-bound and effective redressal of petitions.
Participating in the demand for grants for various departments, Mr. Anantharaman said such a system was in place in most of the States, including Tamil Nadu, so as to enable the petitioners know the steps taken to redress their grievances.
Mr. Anantharaman also pleaded for regularisation of about 60 daily wage employees appointed to the Assembly Secretariat in 2008. The welfare of former legislators should also be taken care of and their monthly pension should be hiked.

A large number of people come to the Legislative Assembly complex daily to meet ministers and legislators for the redressal of various grievances and issues. But there is no canteen attached to the Assembly. It should be immediately taken up by the government, he said.
Mr. Anantharaman alleged slackness on the part of government employees and staff in looking into the petitions submitted by legislators on various issues.
The nonchalant attitude on the part of the employees should not continue since the problems would be left unattended, he added.

Mr. Anantharaman also wanted the strengthening of the police force in Puducherry.
A number of posts in the ranks of Superintendents of Police, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables and Constables remained vacant. The vacant posts should be filled up since the population had increased manifold in Puducherry, he said.
