Engineering student jumps to death in Puducherry

A second year student of a private engineering college at Madhagadipet allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the college on Monday.

Sources said the incident occurred when the college was functioning as usual in the morning.

The deceased Vinodhini (18) of Sultalpet, who was seen upset by the fellow students, all of a sudden jumped off from the third floor.

She reportedly died instantaneously before being shifted to the college’s hospital. A large number of students, teaching and non-teaching staff rushed to the spot.

On information, the police also rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary enquiry.

Reasons for the suicide were not known immediately. The Nettapakkam police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
